Checker plate, sometimes called tread plate, is a sheet-steel product with a repeated pattern rolled into its surface. It is most often manufactured via hot rolling using special rolls but the pattern can also be generated by cold rolling. Generally, checker plate is patterned on only one side. The purpose of checker plate is to improve grip for floors, stairs and such like in industrial buildings and susceptible outdoor locations thereby mitigating the risk for accidents as a result of oil contamination, ice etc.
